Sergio was born in Santa Rosa on the day of August 24th, 1983. Not too much
longer after that, he was given a pencil, some crayons, and some paper
to draw on. He was influenced by cartoons, the Sunday funnies, books,
magazines, movies, video games, and what limited exposure to "real"
art he had in these formative years. As he grew up he was influenced also
by his brothers and their love for hip-hop music and graffiti, especially. He soaked it all in, and decided that art school was where he belonged.
During his 5 years at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, his
knowledge of all types of art ballooned and he discovered his love of oil
painting and charcoal drawing. He filled sketchbook after sketchbook
with observations from life as well as drawings from his imagination. He
discovered the Golden Age illustrators, Bravura painters, contemporary
artists, concept designers, graffiti, writers, photographers, mixed
media, and much more who still influence him heavily to this day. He left school to pursue a career in concept art. He was discovered by Syd
Mead (the artist who created the look for Blade Runner and Tron) who
hired him to work on fleshing out a virtual world for Virtual Space
Entertainment. He currently enjoys a satisfying career in the entertainment field but his need for more creative outlets pushes him to a career in fine arts. He works in a variety of mediums and styles. From oil and gouache
landscapes, to acrylic illustrations, to nude gesture studies on
newsprint, He enjoys it all. His current focus is on using traditional
illustration to explore the visual representation of other senses. For
example, using abstract shapes to link realistic portraiture to hip-hop music. Sergio currently resides in San Rafael, California.
